Effect of Stimulating Maize Seeds with Potassium Nitrate and Licorice Extract on the Seed Viability and Vigor

Abstract Germination and field emergence are delayed their duration is prolonged due to the declining soil temperature during spring season, which reflected in subsequent stages of crop growth, therefore, this study aimed improve germination. Under a wide range environmental conditions, laboratory factorial experiment was carried out effect seed stimulation with potassium nitrate (distilled water only (0), 2, 4, 6 mg L -1 ) an aqueous extract licorice roots 3, 6, 9 g on viability vigor. The according Completely Randomized Design (CRD) four repetitions. results showed superiority interaction treatment between two concentrations gm for each root by giving highest average final germination 99%, seedling vigor index reached 3846, percentage at accelerating age test 75%, cold 76%.
